White spot

Postby Kanundra » Fri Sep 09, 2011 4:11 pm

So I really do think the baby koi have white spot. Several of the black ones have tiny spots all over them and some of the orange ones too.

I treated last night with 40ml of Machalite green, for 800gal but I can't turn my UV off(stupid electrition wired it to the filter pump) I really need to know what effect this will have on the treatment?

Also if this doesn't clear up after a while, should I try something else? I don't want to nuke it by any means because I don't know how hardy baby koi are...

Any help really appreciated, this is a pretty testing time for me.

right dawn as you cant turn the uv off and this may hinder the process of it working the only real method of treatment would be to heat ramp them.
by heat ramp i mean to raise the temp of the water to over 28 deg (82 f ) at the rate of 1 deg per day as we know to avoid stress.
this temp should then be maintained for 7 days in order to end the life cycle of the white spot.the good news is that koi that survive an attack tend to build up a degree of immunity to ich [whitespot]

Umm,

Baby koi seem much more alert today. Hope the Machalite is working. Had to do my usual water change today, I can get away with every two days just about, but this would then water the medicine down, so put in a half dose to combat it.

I hope that it will work, will do a third half dose on Monday and hope that 7 full days of treatment will be suffice to eradicate the white spot.

Fingers crossed.
