Hi everyone, so yeah we're getting some sun now during the day and still bitter cold at night. I've slowly increased my pond temp from 8 degrees to 10'5 and will continue to over the next month.
What I am wondering now is, if its going to a good idea to put some filter booster in now.
I'm also scared in case there are still flukes in there too, as till I do get the temp up, my koi are a bit in a 'bad' place.
Everyone seems okay, I've watched them for quite some time, and only seen one fish scratch himself on the bottom. But that is only once and even fish get itches. I'll continue to monitor everything over the next month. Its time I cleaned the filter properly, hoovered all the gunk from the bottom ready so that there isn't room for any bacteria to build up. Also seeing as my test kits are almost run out, I need to invest in some more.
Would it be better if I ordered everything from someone and got it all shipped out? Probably.
Am also thinking of getting a health check by our local pond guy too. At least if there is anything on my fish I'll know for sure, and can treat properly.
What has annoyed me more than anything is there have been 7 frogs and toads in I caught them all this week. Seems that the sun coming out has brought them out too. AND my whole pond area is secured by fencing. How do they get in?
I'd consider a net but think the blighters would still get in. Gotta just keep on catching them, I don't think we'll have as many as last year. Close to 200
Hope everyone else's koi have done okay over winter.
Be good to see them growing on this year. My sturgeon have really come on... massive now.
Speak soon, guy and gals.
Dawn
