what would be your views on using Air source heat pumps to heat your pond they are cheaper to run and work in reverse as your freezer. A 7000 BTU unit will heat your pond [Heating Capacity (kW) 2.3] and apparently 70 % cheaper than electro heater and 40 % cheaper than gas and start at around £250 .
Mark i cant remember the make of the one you were telling us about but i have found these Duratech Dura Plus 7kw, Single Phase pool heaters and it would work out about 75p per a day as long as the pond was well insulated and covered otherwise you are looking at 10p per hour which is not bad comaired to some pond heaters but a 75p a day for 6 months would be around £136 which really is not bad only down side is the £1,450 price for the unit to start but in a year or 2 you would probable see the money back in savings
Hear is the link to the one i was talking about a bit more price but it is still worth a look and there is a lot of good info there as well http://www.heatpumps4pools.com/koi-ponds
ive been looking into these , from what i'm reading , a very certain way forward for heat the koi pond .
when you look at the big output heaters like the 20kw for a 18-22,000 gallon pond , at around £2500.00 , you would save that in lecy cost;s in just one winter !!!
ive decided to put some money aside for a few of these for the PBF
