Carp pox in dealer

Postby flyingfox » Tue Jan 26, 2010 3:48 pm

Is it bad practice for a koi shop to have koi or a koi that has carp pox (on display)? I am told it will go, but could come back on same koi in the future. Also is it contagious?

no not really !!! shows the koi's immune system is down, when you go into any dealer , you can expect to see certain things on newly imported koi , usualy a dealer covers any vats that are holding any fish that have any problems .

koi herpes virus , is the same family of viruses that messes us up , though this is a fish based herpes virus , yes it can be passed to other fish , but as a koi immunes system picks up , with age the signs are less or totaly invisable , it's mostly harmless , i wouldnt worry about it , just wait for the fishe's immune system to pick up before you buy , as it will only add more stress .

no i dont think so unless the dealer is heated all year round its pritty much a seasonal thing that other koi [of known] can't catch and as soon as the weather picks up they go they are normal on smaller [younger] fish and stop as the koi gets older or if we get the gobal warming us koi keepers want lol
