Koimasters Aquatunnel

Postby koimaster » Fri Oct 28, 2011 8:29 pm

I have been doing some homework to bring you this thread.
theory as i understand it is that it is not the layer of polythene that is keeping their pond warm! the tunnel is merely a heat drawing bubble in which the thermal air coming off your own pond is then contained in and its this thermal air that insulates your pond, exactly how a string vest works!! allowing the thermal air to circulate inside the tunnel and of course the moment you get any sunshine on the tunnel then that thermal air heats very very quickly, and the rest is self explanatory!!
Obviously the tunnel also keeps the chilling winds off which is the main cause for severe temp drops, just like blowing the surface of your hot cup of tea, if you blow strong it dosn't take long to cool the surface! the same principle.

Delivery was swift thou they say 7-10 days a great service got mine in 5 working days thumright thumright

pretty impressed how solid it is even with the cover on 10/10 for that guys

with night temps dropping quickly i will be taking water temps , air inside and air outside temps just to show how good i think this tunnel works.

i have to go and get a thermometer in the morning thou they say tonight is 7 degs and in the tunnel there is not such a chill so much so its quite noticeable and pond is at 8degs :o :o :o

Temp update from yesterday or last night temps dropped to 5 deg but the water stayed as posted and the air in the tunnel just felt a little bit like a spring warm morning possiable for the air to remain at 8 deg with this morning the koi being please to see me swimming more actively . As for today the sun is up and shining so we should see an increase in temp thou theory suggests air temp will rocket in the tunnel it should only heat the pond water slowly I will keep you posted

Hi Master
tunnel is looking great mate and glad it all arrived safely and promptly!
looks fromk your temp readings that the benefits are already beginning to show and yes the koi coming up to the door at feeding time like kids round teh ice cream van is another little perk we dont usually like to tell the customers, we prefer this part to be a nice surprise!!
Also means health wise you can keep a much better eye on yoru koi during the cold winter months as spotting an issue early can be key in most cases and with a flat low level cover you will never be able to monitor them this closely like you can with the tunnel.
Glad its all worked out mate and look forward to the final pics!!

Regards
Rob
