koi thefts

Postby koimaster » Tue Jun 23, 2009 9:46 pm

Given the many recent incidents of koi thefts it is not advisable that any personal details eg telephone numbers or postcodes are given in posts. It would be much better to exhange these details only through pm's . So only the people sending and recieving the pm know .
I thank you for your forward understanding of this matter.

Wise words :!:

For the same reason I won't display Koi car stickers or have a " KOI " personalised car registration number plate,
if they know you are out ............

NOT only for theft ....... but vandalism too :!:
my biggest fear is kids throwing a bottle of fairy liquid over, hoping it will land in the waterfall
they do it every week in the public fountains, to watch the soapsuds grow !

worse still a bottle of bleach
A 7foot 6inch perimeter wall and 16 feet high bamboo hopefully make it more difficult !
I may be old and past my sell by date now .... but I used to throw javelin discus and shot at school,
and I can't get a clean fairy liquid bottle full of water to go in the pond / waterfall from outside the wall !!!

With these things in mind .......
I tell no strangers about keeping Koi .......
any visiting tradesmen ALWAYS comment " these cost £thousands don't they ? "
I always reply: " they can do, but it's like dogs, these are worthless !!! ..... an equivalent of a Crufts winner can be expensive ........
you can buy these for £3 in a garden centre mate ! ..... they grow fast ! but still worth nothing ! certainly not worth going to jail for ! ......
besides which I've CCTV cameras outside ( true )........ and the Mrs. is out with the dog ...... that would have their bloody arm off ! "
A beware of the dog sign on the front porch must surely be a deterrent ?
as hopefully one of the CCTV cameras on full show does. ( you can buy a camera and monitor now for £30 ! wireless too ! and work in the dark !
you can be watching tv, or in bed and just glance at the monitor anytime !

Security lights are another deterrent ........
it is impossible to get within 1o feet of my pond from any direction without switching it on ( £7.50 from Focus ! )
and handy if you want to do anything outside after dark !
I have other lights on a remote control ...... cheap as chips !
time switches ...... again the price of a packet of fags in Supermarkets, Focus, B+Q etc.
have my Granite Lanterns on these.

All of these things can be used to protect your car at the front too ! ....... even see who is at the door before thinking of answering it !
you can pretend you're out when the Mother in law calls !!!

Besides which ....... boys like their toys !
girls too ........ but theirs come from Anne Summers !

Please be aware that there are koi thieves active in Shropshire. A koi keeper has had a number of koi stolen and the thieves were caught on his security camera, police were advised but have shown no interest to date. The fish were stolen at 3am last weekend, whilst there were 5 cars parked on the drive and the pool was only 2 feet away from the house and the owners were inside. I know there is not a lot that we can do but beware and do everything you can to protect your fish.please post on as many forum,s as possible it might be YOU or ME the next time.
